my dd is 4.5 months old. we had a difficult start to breastfeeding as she was unable to latch on, tried everything including help from midwives and breastfeeding specialists and the only thing that worked was to feed using nipple shields. i tried repeatedly the first few weeks to feed without these and had no sucess so I resigned to using them for duration of feeding (intending to feed until at least a year)
I noticed that she was becoming unsettled during feeding and then a week ago she suddenly pulled off the shield and began to feed without it and now feeds fine. Im v.happy about this as it was a bit of a faff using them and made feeding in public a nightmare.
just wanted to give hope to anyone that is needing to use them!!! they didnt affect my supply and my baby is now feeding great without them despite having used them for 4.5 months.

Well done! My DS was the same, managed to stop using them at 19 weeks and still going strong at 8 months :)

Amazing! DS stopped using them after 5 weeks and that was long enough so very impressive perseverance! well done you xx

Hooray for you and little Quark! We're still using them at 18 weeks, so maybe in the next couple of weeks DD will decide she's had enough. Thanks for posting, it's good to know we aren't necessarily stuck with them for the rest of BF :)

Well done my DD was the same and came off the shields at around 5 months. Now if only my DS could latch properly...
