nipple biting

My 9mo old has recently got 2 teeth and is biting my nipples! I've had two small chunks bitten out which is excruciatingly painful and generally very unpleasant. The second time LO came off with blood all round his mouth!!

I've been saying 'NO' very firmly when he does it but it hasn't made any difference yet.

Problem is I'm getting quite scared to feed now because I'm worried he will bite me. I'm currently doing a slow wean of BF as am back to work soon (odd shifts which won't be very sensible to BF much with - will have bottles at nursery) and this is making me have mixed feelings re just giving up now.

ANyone dealt with this?
Thanks

DD started biting me as well at 6m when she got her first teeth but nothing as bad as what you describe - poor you!!!

With DD as soon as she bites I remove her from the breast and put her down for a short while to try to teach her that biting brings a swift end to bf. It has worked quite well (now 9 months old) but she does ocassionally forget especially when she is drifting off to sleep.

I have the same problem with DS. 'Kellymom' has some helpful advice.

I put dd down and refused to continue the feed, didn't make eye contact and after a couple of minutes gave her a quick cuddle then started playing but didn't offer a feed for at least half an hour. After the third time she figured out it wasn't in her interests and hasn't done it since.
