Having problems with my week old. Bf was going well until this morning. Everytime i try and feed him he begins to scream he won't even try to suck and when he does he will suck two three times then let go and scream.

I can hear noises from his tummy i have given him infacol and seems to help. He has not done a dirty nappy since Tuesday. I have been having to express all day and top up with formula as he has not latched on since this morning.

Really upset don't know what more to do he seems in pain whimpering in his sleep

Has your milk come in yet?

It might be that your let down (where the milk starts coming out) is too fast and the baby's getting too much in one go.

when you're about to feed him, try to express a bit of the pressure out, and see if that helps.

It does sound like you need to talk to someone in real life though, so please do so as soon as possible,.

Hi everyone Thankyou for your advice. I ended up taking baby to the hospital and they gave a laxative. This was successful.

He has since been interested in feeding again but still having problems. He looks for the breast and opens mouth but no real strong sucking which he did before. But when he pulls away I can see milk in his mouth. He seems to be getting angry with it. I did manage two good feeds last night but all day today we have been fighting with each other.

I have tried lots of positions but nothing seems to work.

Shyera - you say nothing about whether your baby ha been weighed or if milk transfer has been assessed.

Newborn bf babies do not need a laxative. I think you have had poor care :(

You need to see a midwife who knows what to look for - 10 day old babies should be feeding well and no fighting :(

Hope you get good help soon -and he must be weighed, IMO.

Do you know if your flow is quite fast? If he's pulling off after a few sucks he might be frustrated at milk gushing in.

Maybe you could hand express at the very start to relieve the pressure of the initial let down. It often only needs a few moments.
