Hello I have just moved dd 1 yr old to cows milk. Does anyone know how much she should be drinking per day?

20 ounces=1 pint.... what I was told. Have to adjust a bit for the size of your kid, though, I expect. That's just a general figure.

anywhere between 12-20 ounces is considered ok from 1 year (minimum 350mls is recommended). This is inclusive of milk with cereal, in foods, dairy products, etc so they dont have to take so much as a drink

my dd is 1 next week. How did you manage the changeover? All in one go or a bit at a time?

You can stick with formula till they are 2yrs so there is no rush.
Also the RDA of calcium is overstated and too much dairy is quite bad for you.

Dd only drinks about 4 oz of formula in the morning and 4oz at night anyway. The rest she has cows milk in soups yoghurt cereals etc.
Is it ok to switch her to cows milk as a drink at 1 year? Please tell me your experiences!

follow on milk is swindle to take parents money, they should get iron from their diet and the iron in formula is not as easily absorbed as it is from natural sources, formula follow on milk is completely unnecessary, the cows milk is fin and follow on milk is just powdered milf with Frills

JennyLee · 02/02/2006 14:11

powdered milk lol sorry about the spelling

RudiRedNose · 02/02/2006 15:16

Thanks JennyLee, I can't wait to stop faffing with the formula! (it's not that bad really but bubby does not like the taste of formula that much!)

I changed one bottle over at a time e.g. morning-cows milk and evening-formula. When she had no obvious effects I switched the evening bottle to cows milk too. DD was around 13 months old. Full fat cows milk is perfectly fine from 1 year and I would not line the formula manufacturers pockets by continuing with follow on milk, growing up milk, toddler milk, etc as it is all a bit of a con.

Oh yes formula tastes AWFUL!! full fat cows milk is the way forward lol
