My ds has quite bad reflux its a nightmare, he is sick all the time! He has had gaviscon which did nothing and is on sma staydown which gas made little difference. I am starting him with baby rice soon (hrs 16 weeks) will weaning him help? Anybody else experiencing this? Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks

Dd had/has horrific reflux due to cows milk protein intolerance so I was advised by her paed to wean at 17-18 weeks. I was sceptical but decided to go for it gently and for us it did actually make a huge difference. She went from vomiting around 50+ times a day to about 10. I'd skip the baby rice though. Zero taste, calories or nutrition in that. I started with mashed potato, parsnip, sweet potato and butternut squash etc. Worked really well. But beware of multicoloured puke. Now is the time for plastic bibs! Ikea do good ones that go over arms aswell

Might be worth checking the baby led weaning website as BLW babies control their own food intake. That way you aren't just shovelling in food that they don't really want. Our DD eats everything now, but had bad reflux before she was weaned at 7 months (her choice as she wouldn't take solids earlier).

I weaned dd at 17 weeks because she was so hungry but didn't know whether weaning ds at this early stage would be affected by the reflux, gave him baby rice only a few spoons earlier to see if he would tolerate it and he did. Although it made him cough a lot after will move onto fruit purees soon fingers crossed

We had all the meds, ranitidine, donperidone, omeprolzol etc and the only think that really made a difference was weaning! I hope you'll get to see a difference soon. I started with rice and pear and roughly followed the Annabel karnal weaning Smile

I found it the other way - DD1 didn't really improve with weaning (26w) but did get better as she got closer to 1y. All that happened was she vomited food not just milk not really great to be honest!

I hope the food works! Must be horrible for them to sick food up all the time, at least milk is easy for them to bring up. I used Gina ford weaning book for dd so will follow this for ds too. Fingers crossed!
