Is there a SWAT team of Mumsnetters who could crash through my patio windows and save my nipples?

Day 3 and my nipples are SHREDDED.

Bugger bugger bugger.

What do I always tell people? DON'T tolerate even one bad latch because once you have sores and scabs it is really hard to recover. Why didn't I take my own advice?

She threw up on the bed last night and it looked like we'd slaughtered a chicken. Blood everywhere.

Two big vertical sore scabs, one on each nipple. OWWWWWW.

And I KNOW how to breastfeed. This is my 3rd baby, and I breastfed the other two for four and a half years between them.

Help help help help. Why am I getting it wrong? What do I do now? PLEASE help me.

Wish I could! Have been there myself with both DCs and for me the pain was worse than labour.
Can you try to save your poor nipples by expressing?
Hope someone with more technical expertise can come on soon. I will never forget that moment when the baby latches on and tears would spurt horizontally from my eyes from the pain. You know that once you get through this hell difficult bit you will be able to feed as long as you want to.
Virtual window smashing and virtual handholding.

smashes through window lanisoh in one had giant cake in the other

So go right back to basics. Nose to nipple, hamburger hold if you need to shape the nipple better, once latched on is the chin tucked into your breast and the nose clear?
Big hugs as I know how much that hurts.

Lansinoh. Yes, am Lansinohing.

She is such a faffy little pecky thing with her head bobbing, frantically latching onto her own hand that I don't really get a sensible chance to do hamburger boob in a big wide mouth. And she's so small compared to my other two.

Thank you for the sympathy. It WILL get better won't it.

Yes it will. Don't be so hard in yourself, you've done it before but she hasn't.

Swaddle her before feeding if her hands are a problem. Can you spend some time in bed? Will the other dc be going to school/nusery?

saffronwblue · 08/03/2012 06:10

It WILL get better. It will. Congratulations, too!

Tongue tie? Have you had that checked? That was our problem and eventually (it's a loooooong story) having it snipped saved my nipples. Also jelonet in between feeds helped me much more than Lansinoh. If you want I can send you some - I have loads left over. PM me if you're interested :-)

Try biological nurtaring poissitions. (google you tube for video's) this is a good way to get a newborn to latch correctly.

And do get her checked for TT as well just in case.
