Breastfeeding and mini pill advice needed

Hi, I was wondering of you could share your RL experiences of being on the mini pill while bf. DS is 5 weeks today and I'm exclusively Bf. it's going very well and i dont want to mess up! He's put on 3lbs in the first month! The only little issue is with my fast letdown and oversupply even though I'm block nursing at 5 to 6 hours intervals.
Really my question is:
Will my supply be affected and if so am I better off waiting a few more weeks? Or can I get away with not block nursing, for example, even if supply goes down?
Many thanks for any advice!

I can't remember how many weeks DD was when I started on the mini pill but I've not noticed any real difference with supply - I still seem to be leaky and milk will still spurt across the room if she comes off at the wrong time and she'll be 1 at the end of the month ! (not sure whether or not that's the kind of answer you wanted)

It has no effect at all on your supply or let down. These are physical and personal to your own body. I certainly didn't notice any difference and I bf on the mini pill for 2.5yrs.

Re your original post - does your baby only feed every 5-6 hrs? I thought at 5 wks babies were more likely to be feeding every 2 hrs? Or have I read your post wrong?

She's block nursing, SingingSands :)

It means she is using one breast only whenever the baby feeds within a period of (in her case) 5-6 hours. This is a technique that's used when a mother is experiencing probs due to oversupply.

vanilla - the mini-pill is 'the' standard hormonal contraception of choice for a bf woman.

Glad your bf experience is better for you now :)

He feeds every 2 to 3 hours but only on one side because I'm trying to decrease supply. I meant that each boob is emptied every 4 to 5 hours IYSWIM?
Thanks for your replies BTW. The reason I was asking was I remember reading a thread on mini pill actually being bad for milk supply despite HPs saying otherwise ?

Thanks tiktok, couldn't have done it without you and other kind MNetters!
So you think I can give the mini pill a try? You can tell I trust you so much more than any HP!

Can't tell you what your choice should be, vanilla, but I have seen and heard nothing that makes me think the mini-pill is anything less than safe for mothers and babies - it is the mainstream option and has been so for decades :)

I've heard that some mothers find their supply decreases if they go on the mini-pill. It's a safe option though, because, if you find your supply decreases, and you don't want it to, you can just stop taking the pill.

TBH, though, if you're needing to block feed, then having your supply decrease might not be a bad thing - you could just decrease the length of your blocks.
