Hi would be interested to know if there are any breastfeeding mums out there who have noticed that eating tomatoes and tomato based products flares up eczema.

Thanks

This is very interesting, my breastfeed baby has eczema, which comes and goes, and i love tomatoes, eat them all the time! I will try cutting them out and see what happens, I've never heard anything about this but will try anything, will let you know.

This is because of the acidity in tomatoes, which I have found to be the major cause of my eczema. Try cutting out all acid in your food for a month (so no tomatoes, no fruit except bananas and melons, and no wine - a hard one I know). I did this on the advice of a Chinese doctor and the eczema which had troubled me all my life vanished completely.

DD had really really bad nappy rash. Doc gave us steroids it was so bad. Then I realised I was drinking a grapefruit squash. I stopped and no nappy rash since. The true test would be for me to drink it again and see if she flares but I haven't the heart.

I've always wondered if they were a trigger of my eczema as well as DSs. The acidity thing is interesting - drinking orange juice too much really flares mine up. I might try cutting back on acidy things. Not sure I could manage to ut out the wine though

ds2 has mild eczema (age 11 months)
I am sensitive to several things..including tomatoes....they make my mouth inflamed.

And when my mouth is inflamed, his eczema flares up

I think the things I am sensitive to are salcylates (sp)

popsycalindisguise · 30/01/2006 20:55
