Hi my 14mth DS is poorly for the 4th in 6 weeks(1st a Vomiting bug, then a cold and cough, vomiting bug again and now a cold with temperature). He's a very very picky eater at best of times but now he's ill again, he's not eating very much. I'm stepping up the breastfeeding and he is feeding off me ok. The question is, will this be enough nourishment?im still offering him food too,but ends up untouched...TIA

It certainly won't hurt him to go back to ebf for a short time and it's definitely better than him drinking dioralyte or similar as it has anti-bodies, fat, protein, vitamins and minerals as well as the right balance of electrolytes. It probably wouldn't be great for long term such as many months of no food except bm but in the short term it's perfectly fine.

It might make his poo very soft/liquidy so don't worry if they look like little baby poos for a while.

If you offer food and he doesn't want it but wants to bf instead at least he isn't refusing all food and drink. You can make sure the food you offer is very nutritious rather than offering 'filler' type foods if you think he might have a morsel of something Wink

When i was weaning DS1 a couple of months in he was ill and refused food again. I got really worried and our weaning nurse suggested i go back to square 1 and work my way back to the foods he was eating. I know your son is older, but may be if you go back to more nursery style food he will find it easier to get back to eating. Hope all goes well. x
