My ds is 13 mo and I still feed him to sleep at bedtime. I am a teacher and have been back at work full time since January. I have my first parents' evening since I have returned coming up. I should in theory be home by bedtime but there is a chance it will overrun and I may be late. If ds stays up past 7 he becomes a total overtired nightmare, even if he has had a later or longer pm nap.

WWYD in this siutation? Should I be trying to get dh to settle him in preparation for this? I'm doubtful that he will settle for dh if he knows that i am there, and there is only a chance that he will need to be settled by dh anyway, but this has got me thinking that it might give me the chance to miss the occasional bedtime if we figure out that dh can settle him!

Yes I would be seeing if your DH can do it. Pop out for a walk or something if it makes it easier. You will have to do it at some point.

My DS was 13 mo when I stopped bf. bedtime was the last feed to be dropped. My DH did the story and gave a beaker of cows milk, sang to him with a cuddle. Amazingly, he wasn't actually that fazed by it. You could always express and get DH to give ebm in a cup if it makes it any easier?

I fed my DD to sleep until she was well over 18 months old. However, I found that she went to sleep no problem without a breastfeed when she was put to bed by my DH or her grandma. My DD would take a cup of milk in my absence and was fine. You could have trial run or just go for it and see what happens...you won't be extremely late anyway so its maybe worth a shot.
