Painful left boob - what could be causing this?

Hello all. My nearly 5 week old DD is feeding well but over the past couple of days feeding from the left breast has got very painful. The nipple is very tender and when she sucks it feels like she's chomping on it - but I'm sure she isn't as her latch seems fine and it doesn't happen when she's on the other one.

Both the breast and nipple look normal but the boob does feel a bit harder than the right one. The milk still seems to be flowing fine though. Any idea what could be causing this and what I can do about it?

Is there pain behind the nipple as well? If so, could be thrush. Check if your little one's tongue is white.

Sounds possibly like a blocked duct, sometimes a deeper duct can block and there isn't the obvious lump at the surface, this happened to me a year or so ago-the GP could feel the lump but I couldn't. Is the breast painful to press? Thrush is hideous but the pain is more of a stabbing/shooting pain , the pains can go on after feeding has stopped.I would go see the GP tomorrow,as if the duct is blocked you need to sort it or it can turn into mastitis.

hmmm. check your temp.
Empty that breast regularly every 3 to 4 hours and massage gently towards nipple when feeding .
tuck baby right in so he or she is very close when feeding. if your worried about her nose being squashed don't be tempted to compress your breast with 2 fingers to free it up, just tuck her feet right under the other arm a bit more. And she will naturally free her nose.
biological nurturing and self attachment is worth googling and trying .
lots of skin to skin.
keep feeding . it's probably just a bit of engorgement as it's very early dys yet. try some reg paracetamol too for. Day or so .Sorry about punctuation am writing with one finger and breast feeding !

Thanks everyone. Closer inspection reveals what looks like a milk blister on the nipple, so am treating with a hot compress before feeding and expressing as well as feeding regularly. Will see my GP on Monday if there's no improvement.
