5 mo DD who used to earlier feed for atleast 20-25 from both breasts now only does a 5-7 mins feed. She burps in 30 secs after coming off anf if I try feed her again, she cries horror. Her gaps between feeds use dto be 3 hrs and now they are about 2.5 hrs. She is more fussy and irritable in the day as well. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

sounds normal to me :)don't worry too mcuh

they do get very efficient at feeding as they get bigger/older and that's probably why she comes off quite quickly.

i think they do get to a point where they just fuss and are a bit distractible when feeding because there is so much going on around them.
but honestly, i think as long as you're feeding on demand she will be just fine

Agree with yesterday - nothing in your post indicates problem with feeding or with the baby :)

The fussiness is most likely connected with the development stage of a baby beyond newborn - it passes soon in most cases.

No need to insist on your baby feeding longer - she will now what she needs.

the problem is she is not sleeping as well as used to. Earlier she used to go 5-6 hrs at night without a feedm which is now reduced to 3-4 hrs.

Normal, too.....could easily change back :)

yep, they do this from time to time!
have you started solids? only mine started waking more frequently when they were weaned, not sure if it's because they were thirstier?

scrivette · 25/02/2012 18:49

Sounds completely normal. They get more efficient at emptying the breast (which is a shame as it means I have less time to sit down with a book whilst feeding!)

The sleep sounds like a phase which, hopefully, shouldn't last too long.

Do you have her weighed fairly regularly? As long as she's still putting on weight, and is still wetting her nappies, it's likely that she's eating enough.

Sumi76 this sounds exactly like my baby! he's so quick to feed and wakes 2-3 times at night to feed when he used to wake just once. he's grumpy during the day, which makes me worry that he's hungry!

i am really hoping it's just a phase!

Sumi76 · 28/02/2012 18:25

thanks all ! yes im hoping and PRAYING its a phase and shall pass soon. Im down with the viral flu and this behaviour is surely testing me.
