whenever my baby breastfeeds she gets this strange patchy redness in the face almost like a heat rash...all over her head and she gets hot...
it goes away a few minutes after she stops feeding

she also has been arching her back a bit. and seems tense while feeding.

can a baby be allergic to breast milk?? its so strange

Yes, they can be allergic to the traces of proteins of whatever you've eaten. Most commonly dairy, but also egg, soya, nuts, clergy, tomato, potato etc etc! Or also can be allergic to the lactose in the bm (less common as an allergy I think?)

Does it happen at every feed? You could keep a food diary to try identify what it could be. Are there any other symptoms - green frothy poo, eczema etc?

Pop over to the allergy board, lots of experience and help over there Smile

It could just be heat rash, I'd try feeding her skin to skin (you nacked baby nacked) as this will help regulate her temperature. If she still have the problem then you'll know it could be something else.

Your body temp ajust to help regulate your baby's temp as they are quit poor at regulating there own temp at a young age. This is why skin to skin works (quit amazing really). Ovously it wount' be practial for every feed but it'll help you see if it just is an overheating issue.

Mine gets a red face where she is next to my skin - I think it's just body heat bringing blood to the surface of her face.

Mine has always had lovely red cheek after feeding: they have to use energy to bf. the body heat. The happiness Bear.
