5 month old DD refusing bottle. have been advised to start with a cup. Any suggestions which one and how should I go about it ? She is still only on my breastmilk but thinking of starting solids in a week or two.

Sumi is there a particular reason that you want to introduce a bottle? Starting on solids doesn't have to mean the end of bfing Smile.

Have a read of this and here. If you've got a local La Leche League group they sometimes have talks on starting solids too Smile.

If you do want to introduce a cup, try this one. From experience the ones with valves don't work well with an ebf baby.

I think JJJ means this cup. The one she linked was valved. My bf DD never worked out how to suck the first sip cup. And she can use a NUK bottle!

Just started trying my 5 month old DD with the same cup OneLittleBabyGirl linked to above. Am still planning to keep breastfeeding, but want her to be able to use a cup to drink expressed milk from when I'm not around. I just give her a tiny bit (as it's a bit depressing to see all your lovingly expressed milk being spilt all over the place) and she's already getting the hang of it. You'll need to hold it for her at first to regulate the speed it comes out!

You could always try a different teat for a bottle? Both my babies refused everything except MAM teats

JJJ : I definately want to continue breastfeeding but would love to get a break sometime so DH can feed her from the cup.

Thanks for the suggestions WSFC and OLBG

Sumi thought you might find this useful too Smile.

We have good results with the tt first cup from when dd was 13wks old. Now nearly 16wks old and sometimes she will even take a bottle!

I used a wide neck bottle without the lid and teat worked incredibly well as a cup. The midwife recommended it when I was having suckling problems with initial breastfeeding and he took to it well, with a bib to catch any small dribbles.
