Soothers for bf babies

I was looking at soothers yesterday and there must have been at least 15 different makes and shapes. I left feeling very confused!!

Is there any particular one recommended for bf babies or is it just a case of which one I prefer the look of?

Also I guess you need to wait a few weeks for bf to be established?

Thanks

I have bf twins.

I sent DH to buy dummie and he came back with a selection. We sterilised a pack of each shape and tried them with the babies.

Each twin preferred a different shape, and wouldn't tale any other shape. Their mouths were completely different shapes, so I guess it shouldn't have been such a surprise!

I think the recommendation is to let bf become established - maybe 6 weeks? We had them from 10 days because I couldn't keep them both latched on 24/7. I did have one baby or the other latched on at all times to reduce te amount of dummy time, but I really couldn't cope with two babies on all the time.

Get a few and give them a try Smile

Here is some info on dummies and breastfeeding that might be useful.

Can't offer any practical advice as neither of my two ever had one but hopefully you'll get a few more replies.

Again I tried a selection and she seems to prefer Tommee Tippee closer to nature as they seem to be smaller and the shape seems to be the same as she leaves my nipple in if that makes sense? She will have a suck on any but these seem to be more successful. That said she's not great at taking a dummy, clever little bugger makes choking sounds or pushes it out with her tongue, she's even been known to take hold of the handle and remove it (she accidentally threw it in Costa coffee on friday!) She's 11 weeks.
