How often should 1 month baby feed?

Baby is one month old breastfeeding with occasional bottles of expressed milk or formula if daddy wants to do a feed. Didn't get off to the best start as baby would feed after difficult birth and lost lots of weight. I was told by MW to wake baby every 3hours to feed. Do I still need to do this at one month old? I am not waking him at night and he can go up to five hours between feeds although sometimes is hungry after 3. In the day he tends to feed be awake playing etc then fall asleep and is often just in deep sleep at the 3 hour mark. Should I be waking him? I want him to get enough food, continue to put on weight and do longer stretches at night if he can but don't want to wake him if he needs to sleep.

What do people think wake every 3 hours or not? Any advice appreciated!

I never woke either of mine to feed but dd will feed at least every 2 hours during the day I just feed her every time she cries still. Do you have any real life support? A bf group or similar? Maybe ask them for advice.

I think it depends on LO's weight. If they're doing ok now, you can probably let them sleep a bit past the 3 hours. For their sake and yours! If you're still concerned about weight gain, maybe they still need feeding every 3 hours. Best to check with your healthcare professionals.
