9 mo DS with 7 teeth (4 on top) - PAINFUL feeding!

Can anyone help? I have been lazy with latching as he latched himself after 1 month or so. Now it feels like sharp teeth scraping across my nipple/areola as he feeds.

Not helped by the fact he latches on, then moves his head... so distractable!

The only thing that I can suggest is that you take him off and get him to latch on properly.

There is some info on Kellymom. Most of it is on biting but some of it is suggestions for when teeth scrape.

I concur. Take him off and relatch, he will eventually get the message. After a few days DS got the message that if he wanted boob he had to latch nicely. If he bit I took him off and put him down.

Thank you both. I have started trying that, with some improvement. Also pumping from most painful side so he can drink from beaker. An back to work in a month so preparing to (reluctantly) wean.

Just to follow up, it has improved to the extent I no longer need to express one side.

Hurrah! Good for you Smile

Thanks Fraktal. I confess I'm still a bit wary though, when offering a boob!
