Expressing schedule

I am sure it is on Kellymom somewhere, but I can't find it.

DD is six days old and fairly sleepy, so I am expressing to keep up supply. I also want to build up a good stash for when I return to work when she is 4 months old.

What's a good pumping schedule to be on at the moment? I currently do it twice a day: in the mornings and once during the night. I know I should be building up but her feeding is so erratic I am not sure how - she can go for 2 hours with just feeding/sleeping in 10 min bursts and sometimes she sleeps for long stretches (although I try and wake her every 3 hours, except at night I find I wake her but and then we both fall asleep fairly quickly so I am not sure how much she is getting)

Thanks.

Sorry flying never had much success with expressing myself but didn't want you to go unanswered. Hopefully this will bump it for you.

In the meantme have you read this on sleepy babies?

Hi flyingcloud. Im not an expert on bf at all
and I've been getting lots of support from this forum (ds is 2 weeks old tomorrow) but the one thing I have learnt so far is that during the day you shouldn't let them go more than 2 or maybe 2 1/2 hours without feeding in the first few weeks and 3 to 3 1/2 during the night. This is to establish your supply and also to make sure baby gets enough nourishment (the fact that they're sleeping doesn't mean they don't need to be fed). I found that in the very early days just placing him on my booby would encourage him to latch on even if he carried on sleeping. Another trick is to change him as that should wake her up ( a bit mean I know!)
Anyway congrats on the birthday of your DD!
