How to stop baby slapping my boobs

DS is 7 months and bf alongside BLW. Recently he's started pinching and slapping my boobs, arms and sometimes face when he's feeding. The slapping doesn't hurt but makes feeding in public difficult as it draws a lot of attention. The pinching is sore and I am covered in lots of little bruises from it.

I've tried unlatching him when he does it but it hasn't helped so far. I've also tried encouraging him to play with my necklace or with a taggy blanket instead with little success. I'm hoping it's just a phase but does anyone have any tips?

Watching with interest because I could have written your post word for word! DS also likes to grab my face, poke me in the eyes and stick his fingers up my nose. It's not painful (for the most part) but is very VERY annoying. If it gets too much I hold his hand with my spare arm but then I can't read MN on my phone do anything else while I feed.

Argh, me too Spanner... I'm covered in the same bruises, and scratches if I don't catch his nails quick enough. Wish I had some advice!

My midwife told me the same, they do it to get the milk to come faster but that was when my DD was just born, might be a different reason when they're older. Or rather, there may be additional reasons

he slaps the other breast to the one he's feeding from though? I guess I just have to try and keep his hands occupied.

DS was doing this the other day, I ended up wrapping him in a blanket, but he wasn't that happy about it!

If he's slapping the breast that you are feeding from then he's a clever boy as it will help him get the milk faster Smile. You could use diversion like putting something else in his hand before you start feeding, like a comfort toy or wearing a bfing necklace. Have you tried doing breast compressions yourself?

the pinching is a pain though - mine is 9 months. Makes me realise when it's time to cut his fingernails though.
