Hand expressing

I am returning to work on Friday and am desperately trying to express enough for that days feed.

I appear to be able to hand express much more quickly compared to my manual pump, but it does not seem to be a sterile way of doing it! Is it ok to give hand expeessed milk or should I stick to my pump?

In what way is it not sterile? Are you worried about your hands? Just wash them well. Or the receptacle you are expressing in to? Wash it well, hot soapy water or dishwasher. Your boobs aren't sterile anyway and there is no need to sterilize pumps or bottles for bm. So id say if hand expressing is easier for you then do that.

It was my hands I was worried about as the milk drips over them and then into the pot. Although I suppose I don't sterilise my breasts before feeding so it should be ok!

Hand expressin is prefectly fine. Some people do find it esaier then useing a pump. As Op says just wash your hands first.

Yup I agree with the others, just wash your hands and the container.
