ds3 is 2 weeks old and ebf. his lattch is not great, but even when it is perfect he is gulping and sometimes clicking and i can hear him swallowing massive bubbles of air. he is waking up obviously in pain in the night and his poo is quite green and looks like spinach, whereas at first it was bright yellowy orange. i let him feed for as long s he wants on each side but he probably doesn't stay on long enough, probably because he is full of air. he goes 3 hours between feeds quite happily though and is gaining weight so must be getting more than foremilk??

have tried infacol and dentinox with no success. he is also posseting a fair bit now as well.

any advice? can't go on with this little sleep!!

maybe try the same breast for 2 feeds in a row

also make sure you are eating fat in your diet - hv told me this when my babies poo was green and after upping my milk and calorie intake it fixed itself good luck

Everyone I asked said there was no need to worry about green poos. DS had green poos for a long time but he still gained weight. As long as he's gaining, it's fine. He quite abruptly stopped doing green poos at about 11 weeks. No reason whatsoever.

The windiness I'm guessing is a problem for you though. The only thing I can suggest is going to a breastfeeding clinic to see if the latch can be improved and have a check for things like tongue tie. The latch might look perfect but, if he's still getting gulps of air, then it's not as perfect as it might be.

Good luck and do persist if you feel there's a problem. Could also try the breastfeeding helplines. They're very helpful.

crazy, there is nothing wrong with green poo :)

Spinach-like poo is on the normal spectrum in a healthy, thriving baby.

Attention to positioning and attachment might help with the gulping.

jan - your HV is poorly informed. Increasing your own fat and calorie intake will make zero difference :(

DS also went through a rainbow stage at around 6 weeks. I was worried (even though he was perfectly happy and gaining weight) and posted on here and everyone said not to worry. I worried anyway and got his poo tested etc. He was fine and grew out of it after a few weeks.

Moral of this story is - listen to mumsnet!
