Back to work and weaning off BF

My DD is 8.5 months and I am back at work. I don't always find the time during the day to express and since returning to work my milk has reduced. When I do express during the day I find it a bit demoralising as I only express about 30cc (1oz) from both.

What I would like to do is continue BF in morning and last thing at night, will that work? At the moment I BF at 7am on one side and express on the other to empty. Then do the same at 7pm but switch over, so BF on the side I expressed this morning and express the side I BF this morning. I've been doing this for 3 days now and so far so good.

My question is will this continue to work and help maintain my supply for these two BF sessions per day?

I understand your supply naturally adjusts but just wondering if I BF only two times a day if that will be seen as too little and I will loose my supply altogether. I keep saying I will stop BF as DD is now 8.5months but we both still enjoy the time together and I think last thing at night helps her to settle for the evening.
Thanks for your advice!

I returned to work in August. I express 50ml each day at lunchtime and I still give DS morning and night feeds on the days I work and on non-working days he gets another 2 or 3 feeds on top of that, it all seems to keep working. I am beginning to wonder when he will self wean though!

Honestly can't think of any reason why not!! My ds is 7 mo and I work full time. Most days I express- lunch time and keep the milk for him while I'm at work next day. In saying that, he's hit or miss with a bottle and sometimes never takes my ebm. Sometimes wonder why I bother!! But it gives peace of mind that I'll have milk for him during the day at weekends- which he does still want. So if you are happy to always bf am and pm, incl days off, then that should def work. My colleague bf at night only with no probs!

WitchOfEndor and Mampig thanks for sharing your routines, reading these give me much encouragement. I will continue on this path and see where it goes. Thanks!

Hello. I stopped feeding in the day at 8mo to go back to work at 9mo and carried on bf at night/morning till 16mo.

Added to this, my son never took a bottle at nursery (or anywhere) so he had solids by day with yoghurt instead of milk and bf by night. It was knackering for me as he fed a lot - I mean a LOT - but perfectly possible.

Good luck - any questions, just ask....

I went back to work when DD was 7mo and I think I stopped expressing midday around 9mo. (I don't express at other times). I feed before work and after work. And through the night Sad. In the weekends I do 1-2 more day feeds. My supply has hold up so far and DD is 10mo.

I went back to work when my DS was 9mo. He was bf morning, when I collected him and at bedtime (as well as maybe 2 feeds during the night). He also never took any milk (or water) whilst at nursery, which was a 10 hour day. He was eating LOADS of fruit though so I wasn't worried about dehydration. It was fine, I never bothered expressing as I couldn't get that milk into him anyway, bottle/cup refusnik. Supply was fine, fed more often on non-work days.

Now he is 15mo and feeds twice a day usually, water from a cup during the day, occasionally a tiny bit of cows milk.

They are pretty adaptable and of course are all different, as are we and our boobs.
