Hi, my DC2 is due in June and I'd like to buy a cup so that we can give them expressed milk without using a bottle. I am hoping not to need to give top ups at all, but with DS he lost too much weight, we were told to give top ups (in a bottle) and I think this led to him preferring a faster flow and gave us big probs with BF. Want to be better prepared this time ! Thank you

Any cup will work - even the lid of a bottle or an egg cup!

You can buy special EBM cups but I'm not sure they are worth the money (approx £5 for 10 disposable cups).

Should mention a cup with a small capacity is good (no pint glasses!) and baby laps the milk rather than drinks it. Jack Newman has some video footage of how to cup feed a baby somewhere (it's late and I'm too tired to google).

Medela do small cups for feeding expressed milk. We used them in hospital briefly with ds1 as he had jaundice and was too sleepy to bf.

We would give DD ebm in the lid of a tommy tippee bottle when we were still trying to get the hang of breastfeeding. She was very sweet, lapping at it like a little cat, and blowing little bubbles in it. It worked absolutely brilliantly.

Thanks Mishy and Cordiality. Mishy are they yellow? I have some yellow ones that came with my breastpumps and now you mention Medela I think they could be just right (and probably what they are intended for - I only ever used them last time to 'catch' hand expressed milk!!!!)

We used the little cups for dosing out medecine.

Lid of avent bottle is perfect. Better fit for your hand than narrow straightsided medicine cup style thing.

A medicine measure pot is great.
