I took DS for his 8 week check today and, although he has put on weight, he's fallen from the 68th centile to the 50th (he's exculsively breast fed).

I thought she was about to tell me I had to use formula and must've looked a bit panicky (first baby) but, instead she just said "if that line wasn't there would you think he was anything other than completely well, happy and healthy? Then don't worry too much about the line. I can see he's fine, just carry on doing what you're doing and come back if you ever need any support".

After all the non-supportive stories I've read on here it was nice to feel backed up!

Hurrah, a HCP with common sense!

Well done you and ds Smile

That's lovely. My GP was exactly the same. Actually, so were all the HVs I ever saw Smile

Actually, I took DD to the GP a couple of weeks ago with an ear problem. One of his questions was about her hearing and speech - does she have many words? Like bear, Mummy, bottle? I said, yes to all except bottle, she's never had one, still bf now (20mo). At which point DD jabbed me in the chest and said 'more'. I was expecting a Hmm but I got 'Wow, that's fantastic. Well done you'.

Some healthcare professionals are rather obsessive about those dreaded lines and percentiles. I found myself getting stressed with fortnightly weigh ins etc.. My DS is long/tall and thin. It wasn't until I just stopped taking him to weigh ins that I calmed down.

As you say... Does he look well, is he feeding well etc... That's more important.

yay Grin

Uncle is a GP and he agrees the lines are a waste of time and rarely do more than stress / upset people un-necessarily

As an aside - petrean; are you indeed a petrean? If so I am too (and now will stop before I out myself!)
