Need a hug - mastitis back again

Sorry to be a wuss but really just after a hug - even a virtual one would do! I've just come down with mastitis again, third time now and feel shocking. On my own today so will need to make it down to doctors. The thought of entertaining my ds, lovely as he is all day is making me cringe. Teething too!! Lucky my DS doesn't seem put off so still feeding.

Think I need a plan now though to get him onto bottle and off me - he's five months now. Wanted to get to six but don't think I can do any more. If I run a course of antibiotics (assuming ten days) can I then start to get him onto bottle as soon as I'm cleared up and how long would it be until he'd be fully off me? (He's ebf and never had a bottle up to this point)

Sorry for naff message, feeling very miserable Sad

Hugs! Poor you. Breast feeding was one of the hardest things I ever did (took over 3 months to really get going).
Some people I know weaned by dropping a feed a week, this is probably more sensible than stopping dead which is what another friend did (she got sore and engorged but surprisingly didn't get mastitis).
Bet there will be some better advice along soon.

Oh poor you, mastitis is so awful. And looking after a baby as well must be so difficult feeling so bad. Probably a stupid question but are you taking an anti-inflammatory as well? I swear by Voltarol - it says not while breastfeeding but its the one they give you after a c/s so it must be OK!

I've been through a lot b/f DS3 and mastitis is the one thing that made me want to give up immediately.

Probably worth checking Kellymom for advice on weaning.

Huge hug, I got it early on with both DDs it is vile.
The first time DH was away with the car and I had to call in a huge favour to get a friends DH to get me some antibiotics.

Can't help with weaning, both mine did it themselves DD1 was never EBF and made it clear at 5 months that bottles were much nicer!
DD2 absolutely refuse bottles, even when loosing weight and offered them by a very nice nurse. she didn't give up till she was very bigGrin

Oh poor you, mastitis is so awful. I've had it several times with DS and it really is the work of the Devil.
Have you seen this LLL info sheet on possible reasons for recurrent mastitis?
I think my 2nd and 3rd bouts were probably due to being given an insufficient course of ABs the 1st and 2nd times (only 7 days). I think oversupply was also a contributing factor. DS was 6mo the last time I had it (17mo now). Once he got going on solids and my supply dropped a bit I had no more problems.
Can anyone come and look after your DS for you?

Thanks so much for all the replies and suggestions, which I'll look into. This really is the pits, it's nice to have support. I went to my mum's for a day hence radio silence, and she was a real help. Will check my ABs to see how many days. I'll be weaning him gently now as well!
