One breast fuller than the other

My DD is 3 weeks old and we're breastfeeding - it's going okay, although her latch isn't the ideal, but she's gaining weight. However, I've got one boob which is visibly 'fuller' than the other one and I'm beginning to worry that it's not producing sufficient milk and that DD isn't getting sufficient milk when she feeds from this breast. Is this possible? Anyone else got experience of this?

It's quite normal for one breast to produce more milk than the other and therefore to become larger.
This is usually due to the baby feeding more on one side than the other.
Mother's tend to favour one side due to be left or right handed, having one side more comfortable, one nipple more sore than the other etc.

It is not difficult to even up the two sides. You simply need to feed a little more on the smaller side for a couple of days. Its production will catch up and you should find that the two sides are more equal.

It is unlikely that your DD is getting insufficient milk from one side. If you're really worried, you can discuss it with your health visitor.

I've experienced this with both DCs... they've tended to feed more from my left side because I've put them there more often in order to use my right hand for messing about online for getting things done.

Your breasts should adjust according to the proportion of feeding done from them. The only real problem is if you mind appearing slightly lopsided. But in my case, nobody but me ever noticed...

Thank you both, that makes perfect senses and the boob that's fuller fits with me being right-handed, so I'll just have to either become ambidextrous or feed her more from my left boob!
