6mth growth spurt hell???

DD is 25 weeks and EBF. normally has about seven feeds in 24 hrs - incl one night feed. But she has been feeding at least two-hourly (and sometimes hourly) for the last 2 days. bit dribbly but don't think she's teething. Any ideas? Will throwing some solids in her direction help? Will be trying BLW so I know she won't get any/many calories from them but can't work out in my sleep deprived mind if it's a growth spurt or a developmental thing. Any advice v welcome.

Are you sure she is feeding because she is hungry rather than to have something to rub her gums on? Have you tried giving her calgel and teething rings?
Introducing solids won't necessarily help straight away is you will only give her small amounts at first. It is however a good time to start weaning if you feel she is ready. I believe growth spurts are pretty much over by 6 months. I was in exactly the same situation and started weaning my ds because i couldn't take his frenzied sucking on my empty breast and hungry cries. Good luck to you and your overworked nipples!

Thanks ValeriaS. I've tried teethers and will try calgel today but she doesn't seem in obvious discomfort. She had feeds last night at 7.30pm, 10.30, 2, 5, 6, 7.30am. On top of more than 10 day-time feeds (I gave up counting).

She's showing all the proper signs for readiness for solids (sitting, hand-eye coordination, etc) so think I'll try her on that too. I think she's actually a bit bored by BF, IYSWIM? this was never a problem with DS who was a complete boob-monster.

I don't think she could be bored! We are also BLW, and my DD doesn't start dropping bfs until around 8mo. So for a while I was feeding her all the normal bf and 3 meals on top. It's such a tiring time.

Is your LO working on crawling atm? Is she pushing herself up on all fours and shuffle back and forth all the time? I found the crawling time the worst of all the growth spurts so far.

DS had a massive growth spurt at 6 months. From memory there is one or a developmental leap about now. I remember DS seemed to increase in weight almost overnight! Then his sleep improved (for a bit) - all just in the early weeks of weaning so doubt it was the solids.

Thanks one I know the 'bored' thing sounds weird but I think what I'm really saying is that I think she's maybe having a developmental leap and doesn't want to 'just' BF. She will feed when she latches on but seems incredibly distracted and a bit cross (though not in pain). She's not quite ready crawl (please god not yet! Grin ) but she has been doing lots of new sounds, rolling, sitting, playing with toys. No sign of the feedathon abating today so off to try calgel to see if that helps with her afternoon nap. Iggly - I hope it is that - just want some light at the end of the tunnel - I don't remember any of DS's growth spurts being this long - though I could be blocking out the trauma...

Oh it took a while. His first teeth also came at 6 months - I kept thinking I was imagining symptoms until they actually appeared.
