2 week old has developed a lazy latch! Ouch

Hi guys.

My newborn started breastfeeding beautifully with a strong latch and gaining amazing amounts of weight. However a few days ago his latch has got really lazy. If I pull away he just slides off the nipple (no resistance). Also I can hear clicking sounds while he sucks. I often have to re-latch him several times during a feed. My nipples are getting quite uncomfortable.

He's never had a bottle or dummy.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can correct this problem before it turns into a major issue?

Thanks everyone :)

Congratulations on your new little boy! Thanks

Has baby's mouth been properly assessed for Tongue Tie? Perhaps have a read of this and see if it chimes in with your experience.

Are you still under the MWs or have you moved over to HVs? Could you ask for a trained bfing MW/HV/breastfeeding counsellor/Infant Feeding Co-ordinator (ring post-natal ward for IFC) to have a look at you bfing so they can see how things are?

Hope you get things resolved soon.
