Snuffly 16 day old

My newborn appears to have picked up a slight cold. Sigh.

He's slept quite a bit today, but it's been light sleep. He's not fed as much (he's usually on the breast every 90 mins in the day and each 2.5 hrs overnight). Now he's trying to feed, but snuffling and snorting and pulling off and screaming when he struggles to breathe.

How do I best help him feed more comfortably? My first didn't get a cold until he was much older so I was able to break out the snufflebabe!

Saline drops to dissolve the snot or a small drop of breastmilk down each nostril (anti-microbial and not going to cause any kind of reaction) does the same job.

Feeding baby in a steamy bathroom (obviously making sure baby is nowhere near the hot waterWink).

Keeping them propped up - either books under the head end of the cot or in a bouncy chair/sling/swing.

Feeding as frequently as they ask for it but not letting him go too long with out a feed (don't want baby to get dehydrated).

Hope baby gets well soon.

Good advice above. There's always the Baby Nose Clear too.

Thank you!

Had a better night last night. The breastmilk tip is fantastic - though did get me a funny look from the husband. Grin

Perhaps I should have mentioned you can use a syringe to do it too! Grin

Glad baby's feeling better though.
