Ouch! Baby biting while feeding. Quick help needed!

My almost 5mo DS got his first tooth about a month ago and his second a few weeks ago. He's given me a few little nips in the past (usually as getting latched on) but two or three times over the last 24 hours he has properly bit me. This morning he bit so hard that he drew blood. Ouch!!!!

It's got to the stage where I am scared to feed him so I don't relax properly and can feel myself tensing up as he latches on. This can't be good for either of us. After this morning's bite whenever he does latch on it really hurts.

I so want to carry on feeding him (and he's not weaned and won't take a bottle anyway so I don't have much choice!) but how can I calm down and how can I stop him biting? Thank you.

put your finger in his mouth if he tries it and take him off your nipple. Tell him "no", wait and then offer a feed again.

you might have to repeat this a bit to start with.

also, check he's latching OK and definitely hungry. My DS got teeth at a similar age and he only bit when he was nuzzling, rather than feeding and quite often I found he wasn't latched on right, which is why he bit down.

hope that helps! i'm still feeding DS at 11months now and he very rarely bites. I think at first it was exploring/novelty of a new sensation in his mouth.

Ouch! Just wanted to agree with BornSicky. Pop your finger in his mouth to delatch so he gets the hint. I'm still feeding my 2 year old & have both nipples intact, so can vouch that they do learn!
