Shooting pain in one breast

Hi,

I have been having shooting pain after some feeds not everyfeed. I would say once a day and last for about an hour. It has been happening for about a week. The pain is only from one breast and the whole breast not just nipple.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks very much x

Could be thrush, in which case it will spread and your LO will have it too. Look for flaky skin around nipples and white areas in baby's mouth, best not to look just after feed as some milk will be there still. You will both need to see dr and have antifungals. Baby may show signs of discomfort when feeding as their mouth is sore too, mine never bothered though.

It coulde be a blocked duct, or thrush.
If it is a blocked duct then keep feeding from that side as you will force the blockage out. If you don't feed then it could develop into mastitis. IF it does you still need to feed from that side. Blocked ducts are usually from not draining the breast fully.
If it could be thrush get to the drs or pharmacist and get some cream or antifungals for you and dc. You don't want to get reinfected.

V. unlikely to be thrush, as it is only in one side.

Positioning and attachment need checking - can you get someone to observe you feed, piemaker?

Talk about it to one of the helplines - they are all open today AFAIK.

Thanks very much everyone for your advice Smile

I will go to see the breastfeeding counsellor at the children's centre this week. And call the helpline if the pain becomes too much.

Thanks again
