OK, Mears, suppose I did try hand expressing...

...just out of curiosity, what do you actually, you know, do it into? When I try, the stuff jets into my eye!

Presumably you didn't sterilise it? And what about pouring milk from the bowl into bottles, or are you just a lot less clumsy than me?

I would actually rather like to try it, as I realise I'm pressing those ducts anyway with my pump. But the logistics still seem beyond me.

I expressed into sterile feeding bottles because I was aimimg to freeze the milk (best stored in sterile containers. While I expressed or fed from one side, I collected the drip milk from the other in a sterilised breast shell. You can get quite qccurate aiming the milk jets into the bottle - wide necked is probably better. You might find till you get the knack some dribbles down your hand though

If I do manage it, do I get a Mears Gold Star?

Did it into a two pint pyrex bowl which I sterilised. Then pured it into the special freezer bags.

motherinferior - all musnetters get gold stars
I hope you manage to get the knack of hand expressing because it is so much faster than the pump (unless ofcourse you have a double pump and do it simultaneously). It is quite liberating.

motherinferior · 11/11/2003 10:25

I do as it happens have two hand pumps but somehow the logistics of that one seem impossible!

Will try it, I think. At some point. Oooer, the pressure...
