I need some new bras as I have enormous boobs. Need to get measured also, where is the best place to go?

TIA

I found Bravissimo the best place, they really know their stuff and they have plenty of choice for the larger of nork. I went up to 32GG when I was pregnant and managed to find something that wasn't hideous.

seeker · 28/12/2011 18:12

Really sorry, but I saw the thread title and instantly thought "on the boobs, surely"

I'll get my coat.

I've got a fair sized pair myself (32HH at last count) and Bravissimo and Rigby & Pellar have always seen me right. Some branches of NCT have bra-fitting specialists who come out to your home. Bravado and Royce are good makers of large nursing bras. Also have a look at Hot Milk website (sorry, can't link from phone).

As regards measuring, if anyone comes at you with a tape measure, walk away. The best bra fitters do it by sight. Might be a bit strange if you're not used to it but a decent fit is worth it's weight in gold.

SmileItsSeasonal · 28/12/2011 18:16

Another vote for Bravissimo here.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 28/12/2011 18:35

MomboJumbo Thanks will check those sites out.

I really have no idea what size I am.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 28/12/2011 18:38

I'd have to get the tape measure out to give myself a rough idea anyway I think.

pookamoo · 28/12/2011 18:42

Definitely don't go to mothercare.

I would agree with all of the above, except that I am a trained nct fitter and I use a tape measure as a starting point as I haven't been doing it for very long! (give me time and I'll be able to do it by sight!) That said, I still manage to fit bras better than mothercare, even if I say so myself!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 28/12/2011 18:46

Pookamoo Are NCT fitters everywhere? and do they charge for measuring?

OP posts:
Pastabee · 28/12/2011 19:30

I really rate my Hotmilk bras. I'm 36gg with bf'ing and they give great support.

I have Mothercare plain cotton for night and they are awful.

showtunesgirl · 28/12/2011 19:53

If you're in London, The Fitting Studio in Forest Hill are brilliant.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 28/12/2011 20:13

I'm down south in Portsmouth.

GrinGrin my first instinct was ' the bin!!!' Hate them!!!GrinGrinGrin

pookamoo · 29/12/2011 09:36

No charge for fitting, OP. Often they will come to your house or you go to theirs. I do fittings at a bf cafe session. Contact your local branch via the nct website: Portsmouth and Southsea

mampig interested to hear why? How do you manage with a normal bra? Or do you go braless? What about leaks?

FutureNannyOgg · 29/12/2011 10:14

Measure in Bravissimo, but buy bras from nursingbras.co.uk or brastop.com

pookamoo · 29/12/2011 10:17

Nursingbras.co.uk are very well priced and very quick delivery, too.

ATruthFestivelyAcknowledged · 29/12/2011 10:23

I measured myself and bought mine on the NCT website and they arrived the next day. I got them two or three days after LO was born though when I couldn't have faced going to the shops or having someone measure me.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 29/12/2011 10:29

Anita underwired nursing bras are the best I've tried. Non underwired just don't offer any supoort or shape ime. I think figleaves sell them.

FutureNannyOgg · 29/12/2011 10:43

Cake do an underwired bra too, which is really pretty and comfy.

madam1mim · 29/12/2011 11:56

i'm pretty sure that mothercare nursing bras contributed to me getting recurrent mastitis and blocked ducts! overpriced too!
the best ones i have found are soft cotton ones from marks and spencers think there were two in a pack for about £15. got mine online.

peggyblackett · 29/12/2011 12:01

Debenhams. Excellent fitting IMO. 20% off at the moment too.

Mampig · 29/12/2011 13:53

pook just find them annoying and poor support tbh! Also way overpriced imo. Yes I do wear them, but out of necessity, and they make me feel frumpy. Still bf tho so no fancy frillies for a while yet!

babyicebean · 29/12/2011 14:17

I am just about to start listing some NCT nursing bras on ebay - never used, still have the tags on them. If you let me know size I can have a rummage through and see if any are any use

FutureNannyOgg · 29/12/2011 16:45

Mampig, no fancy frillies?

Hot Milk: www.nursingbra-shop.co.uk/asps/resources/super/188-3.jpg
I have all these, and got them all on discount, for no more than a decent M&S bra. I'm a 34F, all give good shape and support.
I rest my case Wink

John Lewis fittings are good, too, and JL stock the larger sizes. However, be sure to stick with thesame brand per size, as fittings do differ!
