A few breastfeeding issues including DS preferring right breast!

DS is three months old and he has recently decided that he hates my left breast! Is this normal? We are co-sleeping and he feeds off it during the night but during the day he fusses until he gets his favoured one but it is a pita. Any advice? Also he now only seems to feed when I lie down with him which can be impractical.

Short answer: keep persevering with left & feeding in other positions.

Needing a good burp is likely to be part of the difficulty, you may need to experiment to find times when he's more likely to take the left. You don't' want to get lopsided, so really worth persevering.

I definitely don't want to get lopsided!! I have found it a bit easier today and wonder if I was a bit stressed with feeding in front of random family members over the Christmas period and whether that exacerbated the situation. I never had this kind of trouble with DD though. Strange.

DC2 gave me mastitis, not once but twice (she was expert at latching onto the side of my boob and nowhere near the nipple). She had a very gentle latch otherwise. But crushing those full up glands literally damaged them.

Never had that problem with the others. They were all different, I guess!!

This is probably terrible advice but I 'save' a breast for expressing sometimes. Works a treat for me! Perhaps you could express from the unpopular breast and kill two birds?

I hated last expressing last time so I haven't braved it yet this time around but I will have to do it at some point so I can actually be away from DS for longer than 10 minutes!

This has just happened to me today too!!! My girl is 19weeks and today started screaming t the right. She's usually a dream so this is v out of character even when she needs a burp. I fed her on the left but had to give her tw right (was going swimming and needed to look even!!) when she had what was left of the left, (sorry for tmi) big leakage on right, then I put her on right and she took it. Was almost as I'd the fore milk wasn't right to her. Same thing happened this evening. Not sure what to do?!
