Help, I think I have thrush

I think I have thrush on my right side. The nipple is pink and a bit white on the end and I really don't like to have any kind of material on it. Also when LO sucks on it, it is SO painful. The pain in the breast is kind of itchy and a bit like pins and needles which leads me to suspect that it's thrush.

I got some Daktarin gel for tonight but I'm guessing that I need to see the GP but I am highly doubtful about getting an appointment tomorrow.

I'm feeling pretty tearful right now and rather uncomfortable so would love to know what I can do in the meantime.

Also I feel pretty engorged on that side so I'm expressing on that side and throwing the milk away.

Please help! :(

Does this help?

Or this.

Don't forget that cold water sterilising won't kill the thrush organism (if that's what's up) so steam sterilising or boiling the pump after each use to prevent reinfection will be needed.

Hope you find out what it is - you can call the bfing helplines too in the morning

I've read them through and I'm still confused.

How old is baby?

Does baby have any signs of thrush herself (white spots in mouth that don't rub off with a clean muslin, nappy rash)?

Do you have thrush anywhere else or recently finished a course of antibiotics?

When is the pain worse - on latching, during a feed, after a feed?

Where is the pain and what does it feel like? - You said you have pain in the breast and tingly like pins and needles - does this happen during the feed or after?

Does your nipple change from white back to normal nipple colour quickly or does it stay white for a long time? If it changes does it hurt worse when it changes? Does the pain improve if you put a heat pad on the nipple? (Not too hot just body temp)

Do you have Raynauld's phenomenon (fingers/extremities very vulnerable to cold/temp changes)?

Right.

Baby is 5 weeks and has no white spots.

But after re-reviewing everything, I think I had a blocked duct which is what was causing the pain in the nipple. There was a white spot on my nipple.

I have managed to feed her from that side now twice now after tackling the blocked duct with a sterilised needle. Milk came gushing out of the blocked bit!

I think the blockage was caused from oversupply after a rather vigourous reaction to fenugreek which I've now stopped taking. I suspect the pins and needles which tended to happen after a feed was my milk rushing back in again!

Ah. I'm still getting discomfort in my right side after a feed. Not sure why. Also, today I've been leaking a lot.
