where/how to get help

Hello, my DS is 5 weeks and I feel the feeding is getting worse not better. i know his latch isn't perfect and it takes quite a few attempts for him to get on at all which makes feeding out of the house or in front of people difficult.

I've been to a breastfeeding cafe, but the help wasn't very 'hands on' it was more of a social for mothers. I would like some one-to-one advice so I can crack this - how do I access help? I plan to go to the next LLL local meeting but would really like to do something to improve the situation sooner.

I'm in South London, near Kings College Hospital, just in case anyone can be really specific about where to go! Thanks.

I'm not sure about kings are but I'm near crystal palace.
You could try giving the community infant feeding team a call on 08453082310
Have you spoken to your HV? Are they helpful?
Your local children's center should also be able to point you in the right direction of help or try calling the NCT.

Hmm, it's maybe a bit of a trek (and I'm not sure when it restarts after the holidays) but the Baby Cafe at the Storkway Children's Centre in Kidbrooke has been great for some people I know. You can park nearby, if that makes any difference. There will be mums just sitting around, but if you make it clear you're there for specific help the staff are fab.

OP, have messaged you.

I went to see Jill Moore the infant feeding specialist at lewisham hospital (which I'm guessing isn't a million miles away from you). She observed a feed and was a great help. You can contact her via the hospital (maternity 5). Or, does king's have an equivalent? Ask for the midwife who specialises in feeding? Hope you get it sorted. Xxx

OP, I had my LO at King's. They gave me a list of places to go. I believe there's one tomorrow at 10 at Peckham Library.

I was thinking of going myself.

Have pm you too.

Thanks Hazchem I'm not far from CP! I didn't know there was an infant feeding team so thanks for that number. The HV does weighing and that's it! my LO is putting on weight so I get approx 5 seconds with them!

Thanks Second, I looked up that Centre but its difficult for me to get to on public transport - I've only managed the bus once and am basically walking everywhere atm so seems half a world away!

ShowTunes I have the list of places from Kings but have been disappointed with the ones I have tried to access help - ie they haven't really helped and some of them are quite far away from me. I just really need help quickly so feel I don't have time to work all the way through the list of places. Did you make it to Peckham, how was it? i looked at the list again and saw that one-to-one appts are available in Stockwell so I will call tomorrow to find out more.

Grateful for all your advice.
