Not had more than a glass of wine since before I found out I was pregnant would really like a wee drink this Christmas esp as my friend just gave me a bottle of m&s fruity pink fizz, dd is 7 months but usually having a feed about 11 mainly a comfort thing though I think for teething. How much do you think is safe to drink?

A couple of glasses will be fine!

See here for info: www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/Alcohol_and_Breastfeeding_March_2009.pdf

If you are sensible in your drinking (i.e. not necking wine/vodka) not much goes in to baby and as my gp put it (!) if a little does and makes baby sleepy is there much of an issue? You won't make it dependant in one night. Every night and a bottle for a year then expect a problem!

No doubt will now be shouted down in flames but hey I got that off a gp.....

The most ill manage is a couple of glasses of fizz! Just realised my m&s stuff is only 5% anyway!! So I'll get cracking with that and at least I can happily have a couple of champagne with Xmas dinner Grin

I have a 3month old baby

I gave up alcohol before i planned to get pg, so have had hardly any for 15 months now. (I had none at all since oct 2010 until i gave birth)

i have had a largish glass of wine right now (wont be feeding DD until 3am ish) and OMG dont i know it.

I have had a few very small glasses / sips since DD was born but not a proper glass size glass, and OMG i think i need to to bed now Shock lol Grin

Hahaha Nanny I know the feeling I'm on my 2nd glass of 5% fizz and even that is going to my head!!

Go for it :) My only proviso is to take care if you bedshare to make sure you're sober enough when you go to bed to have no risk of rolling on your baby...

Meglet · 23/12/2011 21:08

When DD was newborn I used to sip champagne while bf Blush. Only had tiny glasses of it though and while eating.

Never drank while pg but went mental stuck to the sofa feeding all the time so had wine with my dinner every night. Stopped when I stopped bf.

I do bed share but no chance I'll be drunk nearly finished the bottle and I feel fine. Did throw one glass over the floor though!!

Mastitis cases do increase over the Christmas period - mainly due to people being too busy with Christmas to feed babies!

ScaryFairy28 · 24/12/2011 22:04

That would make sense dd has been getting annoyed feeding all day Sad
