Hi Edless just wanted to say:

  1. I fed my DS with nipple shields for 8 months as my nipples were deemed too short/flat! He was massive by the time I'd finished! So it can work out with the shields. I did not need to express.
  2. With DD, who is now 6mo, she had a thin but v short tongue tie. When I read your first post about your DSIS's baby latching and then repeatedly coming off the breast, I did wonder about tongue tie as this is exactly what happened to us. She would only latch on with shields before it was cut. I carried on with the shields as assumed I still had my inadequate nipples but then stopped using them virtually overnight at about 3 months. So, it is possible to stop using them as well, even after a while.

Hope all is improving at your end.
