Why dadsnet and not mumsnet??

SueW · 11/01/2006 17:25

Cos it was set up by mums for mums?

CountessDracula · 11/01/2006 17:25

what a silly question
because then it would be dadsnet not munsnet

motherinferior · 11/01/2006 17:26

Because mothers are overwhelmingly more involved in parenting, despite the attempts of many of us on a domestic and more broadly social and political front to rebalance this anomaly.

CarolinaMoon · 11/01/2006 17:27

cos dads can't breastfeed. Is that why we're in this topic?

CarolinaMoon · 11/01/2006 17:29

except that they can , of course.

You could set up Dadsnet if you think there's a demand for it. Are you a bloke?

motherinferior · 11/01/2006 17:31

Also it's a ploy to highlight the fact that 'he' is still used to refer to the 'norm' and to turn this on its head by assuming that everyone is female.

Yes, but im using my fiance's login.

I only used thefeeding part cos this was the section we were logged into at the time.

Or if not Dadsnet, even parentsnet would be more PC.

But that would obscure the fact that men still aren't doing half the parenting - the most positive estimate (from Fathers Direct) is that they're only doing a third.

georginars · 11/01/2006 17:33

there are plenty of parenting websites about, this happens to be mumsnet! Nothing to stop somebody setting up Dadsnet too. And we do have some dads on here anyway who seem to be able to cope with the name

LynseyM · 11/01/2006 17:35

I can be arsed doing washing, cleaning etc,

Just that my darling fiance prefers to do it as it is calming to her!!!

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 11/01/2006 17:35

Why not bother MotherCare? you could start a petition

Its called Mumsnet because that is what Justine Carrie and Rachel decided to call it and seeing as they do all the hard work etc they can call it whatever they want!

motherinferior · 11/01/2006 17:37

Calming???????

LynseyM · 11/01/2006 17:37

Fine! I gratiously admit defeat and will sulk back to letting the MUM do this posting messages thing!!!

LynseyM · 11/01/2006 17:38

ediemay · 11/01/2006 17:40

LynsayM's fiance... why don't you get yourself a posting name and join in? you're question's so welll and truely been answered. There's nothing more I could possibly add to MotherInferiors replies but go on join in and become a Mumsnet Dad!

suzi2 · 14/01/2006 20:16

Male lactation? Fascinating. For my next little one, I'm going to get DH starved and using a breastpump several times a day for the 9 months and he can be my wet nurse!
