Increased frequency of feeding

I'm ebf my 7 week old on demand and he had been going 3-4 hours between feeds in the day, however this week we had pil visiting and he seemed to want feeds far more frequently, but today after they left they have gone back to 3 plus hours.

Pil are pretty excited to be grand parents and consequently pretty intense with him wanting to hold, jiggle and talk to him non stop. Could it be that this over stimulation has caused increased feeding or a need to be near me, and has anyone else experienced this? Or could it just be that a growth spurt has coinsedently happened this week?

The main reason I'm asking is that we go to stay with them over Christmas and I (and my boobs) would prefer not to have a repeat next week if there is a link. Not sure how I encourage a calmer approach if the two are linked though!

It could well have been a growth spurt, I think there's a common one at around 6 weeks.

But imho I would say it was definately also plausible that your DS had an increased need to be near you for comfort if he was a little overwhelmed by your well meaning relatives! It's in your arms and at your breast that he feels safe and secure.

Maybe just try and take things steady over Christmas; if you are going for a couple of days there will be plenty of chances for them to have a cuddle. Preferably to be timed whilst you have a relaxing bath or enjoying your yummy Christmas dinner while it's still hot!!
