Baby not gaining weight- worried

I have a 14 day old beautiful baby girl. She has already given us plenty to worry about as we spent the first week of here life I the NICU and special care baby unit due to breathing and swallowing gunk during labour ( not meconium)

She came home at 7 days old and has been EBF from day 5 (nil by mouth til then). We are having to use nipple shields as my nipples are quite short and she had lots of dummy usage during hosp procedures so she got used to rubbery feel and seems to prefer it.

However was weighed today and she has lost 10g since leaving hospital a week ago. MW says to pump at same time as feed and then top up with that at end of feed. Anyone else had success with this? It seems like such a faff. Trying to pump while feeding not easy and then the bottle bit at the end. Then mass sterilising before next feed in 3hrs time.

I can't go anywhere and am going to be chained to my breast pump for days it seems like.

Any thoughts or helpful stories. I am worried she will not gain and end up sick again. I can't take seeing her like that again. Please help.

Oh well done Laura. Just found this thread & really feel for you. You are clearly a lovely Mum and have found the right path for your little one. I went through something similar with my son last year - he was feeding but dropping too much weight and starving, really. Started screaming with frustration every time I offered the breast. Against everything I wanted for him, I offered him a bottle and he drained it. He carried on having some breastfeeds for a few days, but basically just voted with his feet. He simply preferred bottles. So he ended up being fully FF from 4 weeks old. He is such a healthy happy little boy, with a mega strong constitution. Much as it was hard at the time, I'm convinced bottles were the right choice for him. That said, if your baby will go back to ebf or even carry on with some breastfeeds longterm, then that is the icing on the cake. Smile
