How many feeds per day? 8.5 months

Hi ladies,

my daughter is a happy, healthy 8.5 month old. She is breastfed and eats three meals a day.

I'd like to slowly decrease the number of times I breastfeed her each day, so that weaning her OFF the boob at 12 months isn't too sudden. But I have no idea what is 'normal' nor how much milk she needs at this age.

Has anyone out there done this smoothly and/or easily? What would you recommend?

My Boy dropped his feeds by himself, He led the way. I was doing about 5-6 feeds a day by 8.5 months, about 4 a day by 12 months. Still am at 15 months.

Sorry should say 3-4 a day by 12 months. Lots of babies are just on early morning and bedtime by a year.

4 a day, 2 at night. It depends on the size of your baby and their nature. Try adding two snacks and offer drinks from a sippy cup with all meals and snacks. I agree with your baby will drop feeds when she's ready.

Fwiw you need to stop feeding at a year.I'll be going back to work full time and I just need DD to accept a sippy cup while I'm at work. From what I've heard babies are happy to do that and will catch up their milk feeds in the evening,

There's no need to force them to stop because of return to work. They behave so differently at nursery. My 8.5mo did 4 feeds during the day yesterday. But she only has 2x20-30ml bottles at nursery all day.

Hi ladies, I'm finding this all VERY helpful! Please continue with the advice/perspectives - really useful!

DS had about 8 bfs in the day and 3-5 at night at that age. He still has about 8 a day now at 23 m.o., and 1-4 at night depending on how he sleeps.

My 7.5mo has three meals a day and water with meals. She feeds on waking, in the afternoon and about three times between 5 and 8pm. She then has two feeds during the night. When I first introduced solids at 6mo she maintained her 2/3 hourly schedule but now she has the hang of eating she's gradually moved onto her current routine by dropping the morning feed and an afternoon feed.

I return to work full time next month and I plan to express 5-6 oz for her afternoon feed and continue the morning and evening feeds. The nursery manager said that she probably won't need/want the afternoon feed because she'll forget about it.

Do you want to carry on past one year?

Mine was on 4 feeds (first thing/mid-morning/mid-afternoon/bedtime) from about 8/9 months and continued like that even after we switched to cow's milk at about 13 months. Though from 11/12 months he could easily miss the daytime feeds and have a food snack instead if necessary.
