9 week old feeds

My 9 week old still feeds every 2 hrs - I think this is because she only cat naps 30 mins at a time - sick of "are you feeding that baby again" comments from my sister and my mum. She is chubby - on 75 th centile but I can't really put her off feeding and I amid think she is feeding because she is tired and not sleeping well. Is this normal it should I try to get a 3 hr routine - she does a 5 hour stretch at night.

That sounds normal. It also drove me crazy when everyone used to ask if I was feeding again. I used to tell them that I was trying to stuff him full for the night! I liked scheduled feeding as I liked the routine and it made me feel more relaxed but at 9 weeks I scheduled feeds every 90 mins in the day as that seemed to be what DS liked.

You are happy.

Your baby is happy, growing and healthy. She has a nice long stretch of sleep at night - not all babies do.

She is normal - plenty of babies this age are doing exactly or more or less exactly that (in fact there are a couple of babies whose mothers are posting about more or less the same thing at the same age on mumsnet today, in this folder :) ).

You could try to change her - but why? She would be upset. She risks getting less milk than she requires for her own individual needs. You would be distressed and pressured.

Your mum and your sister might be happier if they saw you and your baby being unhappier doing this routine shenanigans.

Do you really want to put the needs of 2 grown ups to feel superior above the needs of a tiny baby to have her needs met by her mum?

Probably not :) :)

Tell them you will hear no more discussion about it from this moment on!!

Do you want a routinue or is it just to respond to your sis and mum's annoying comments? At this age I would not try and put her off feeds, she knows when she wants a feed better than anyone else.

This type of frequency is pretty common I think, it may stretch out when she is a little older (or it might not).

my 12 week old was like that at 9 weeks... fed at least 2 hourly, and 90min-ly be evening

this past week she has started doing 7am / 10.30ish / 1ish and then 2 hours.

im sure your baby will get there too

dont forget her feeds are food / drink so she might be thirsty

My 11 week old is still feeding every 2 hours-ish during the day, although sometimes has mega naps of 3 hours so wakes starving Xmas Grin

In fact will often feed every hour for 3 or 4 hours in the morning, then start spacing to 2 or 3 hours then clusterfeeds in the evening. I just go with the flow. He is capable of waiting longer if we're out and about but then is starving when we get home and sucks like I haven't fed him for days!
