Biting

Well we've made 6 months EBF. But now DS has his two bottom teeth and keeps biting me. When he does this, I yelp and put him down but I'm pretty sure he doesn't understand. Am really sad because I don't want to give up BF, have loved it so far and wouldn't know where to start with bottles. But am terrified of the top two teeth arriving. Any tips or reassurance that this will pass would be gratefully received.

Try to recognise the change in latch which precurses a bite and preempt it. I stick a finger in quite quickly to break the latch and reattach him properly.

I remove DS when he does get a bite in and say no biting quite firmly. He gets annoyed. I wait a few minutes and then put him back on.

Ta frak. He tends to do it as he is latching on, he gets so excited it's as if he clamps down to draw my nipple in. Guess he may have been doing it before teeth but I never noticed. I have gone back to newborn days - holding him in the cradle hold, nose to nipple etc but he is so big and strong that this is difficult. He's also bloody nosy so lots of latching on and off during a feed. It's such a shame because he used just to latch himself on in the night, now it is a full on performance with lots of wailing (me and him) that wakes everyone up.

Hi I'm going through this too. My DS does it more if he's been allowed to chew on people's fingers so I ask them not to let him as he can't be expected to know the difference.

I just give a loud no and put him down with no cuddle for a few minutes. I think he's getting the idea.
