12 wk growth spurt - anyone else? Does it ever end??

For the last EIGHT DAYS my DS has fed every hour during the day and every 2 hrs in the night. To say I'm shattered is putting it mildly.

He won't nap for more than 40 minutes in the day, and wakes up crying for another BF. He doesn't want to be put down and wails if I leave him for 2 mins to go the loo. At night he thrashes about like a demon and I don't get to sleep even when he's sleeping. Before this he was a happy, placid baby who had just started sleeping through the night.

Could someone please reassure me that this is normal-ish? And most importantly, will end?!

In exactly the same situation. Thought these growth spurts were supposed to be a couple of days but it has been a week for us now. Mind you he definitely wasn't sleeping through before (never more than 3 hours) so not quite such a shock to the system for us!

My little man is also thrashing around and staying awake for long spells at night. Surviving by thinking he might go for longer than 3 hours when we come out the other side!

So no reassurance here only sympathy!

I'll definitely settle for sympathy! It's great to know we're not the only ones with an "extended" growth spurt (not so great for you, obviously, but you know what I mean :o).

I'm expecting some giant developmental leap in return for all this craziness. If he's not sleeping through every night, wearing 9-12 month trousers and bringing me a cup of tea in the mornings by the end of next week I shall be sorely disappointed.

my baby girl has been having a growth spurt for over a week now

including mammouth 2+ hour night feeds... 3 boobies followed by bottle of bm top up followed by another booby. aghhh!

nannyl · 05/12/2011 17:35

she is 12weeks tomo

Ooh, another one! I sympathise with the mammoth feeds. We started off with a 10 minute feed every hour last Monday and by Friday afternoon had progressed to one long unending feed which just blurred into the next one and the next. This evening, though, feeding seems to have started to slow down, so fingers crossed it's the beginning of the end of the growth spurt...

Ha! Yes i too am hoping for a lots more sleep for everyone at the end of this. last night only woke 3 times so maybe nearing the end? Fingers crossed. Taking long time to settle though - very interested in everything around him at the mo.

Hoping for that cup of tea...

JacqueslePeacock · 08/12/2011 10:32

Phew...the good news is the feeding has FINALLY settled down. Just when I thought my nipples couldn't take any more, we're back to 2-3 hourly feeds. Hurrray!

The not-so-good news is that sleep is still a distant memory. What on earth is all the thrashing about? It seems that every 3 minutes he bashes himself in the face and wakes up. I am reluctant to start swaddling now but something has got to give...

Oh, and no sign of the tea yet (although he can now clutch things - we're getting there slowly!).
