Reflux and now milk aversion - help anyone? xx

Hi All,

Jamie is doing really well after his larynx op, however the silent reflux is still there.

He is on lansoperazole and domperidone which are working well (touch wood) and we have been advised to wean him early which has helped as well and he has taken to it really really well.

My main problem now is that he just will not take milk, consultant thinks he has a milk aversion that can happen with babies who have reflux. I have tried different bottles (have always used dr brown) and tried every cup that boots/mothercare sell!! but he just will not drink a bottle of milk, most he will have in a sittiing is 2-3oz,

I am mixing his milk in all his food so that I know he is getting some but as soon as I put the teat in his mouth he will have 2 mouthfulls and spit the teat out.

I am really worried that he isnt getting all the nutrients he needs and just looking for some advice on what I can do, if anyone out there has experienced the same problem?

Much love

Lucy

Hi Lucy I just found your message, I can sympathesize alot with you ((hugs))...My now 5 year old Abigail had Reflux when she was a baby, and we also had her on the same meds..and weaned her early. I believe she had a milk phobia too, she assocated the bottle with pain and simply wouldnt suck. She would arch her back and turn away from the bottle. I too worried about the nutrients she may be missing, so id use her formula milk in my cooking for her as much as possible and a sippy cup. how old is your little one? xx

I am totally new here to mumset..so hope I am answering properly here.

much love xxx

Thanks ladies for replying,
Jamie love his food, I have found today tho that he takes his milk better out of the next teat up, were using no.2 teat on dr brown and today moved to no.3 and has made a difference so will keep perserving with it.
I know isnt ideal weaning at such an early age but decision was made for me by consultant so cant be too harmful if they recommended it.

I am adding milk to everything now, veg puree, fruit puree and rusk.

I am seeing health visitor tomorrow (I put complaint in as havent seen one properly since we came out of hospital) so having a home visit tomorrow so will see what they say and will report back.

Sending you both hugs.
