When does a 7mo drop a bottle??

Hi,

My DD is 7mo and still on 5 bottles a day and has on average 35oz a day! She shows no signs of slowing down and necks every one. I am doing BLW and her solid intake is so-so.

I was under the impression she would start to "drop a bottle" but when will this happen? Should I encourage her by dropping a few ounces?

I don't want to overfeed her but nor do I want to starve her!! She is a healthy weight (has always been between the 50th and 75th percentile), but is long for her age (around the 91st percentile).

ds dropped to 4 bottles at 8 months when he dropped his night feed. He dropped to 3 at around 9 months.

They will tell you when they are ready to drop a bottle. Mine is bf and blw. She only really got into solids at 8mo. (Her poo changed from curry consistency to adult like overnight)! That's when she started to demand less milk feeds.

With bottles I'd imagine you will see her not finishing her bottles.

Hi Chellenemily - my dd2 is 6.5mths and sounds exactly the same as your dd. Mine also doesn't really eat much in the way of solids. I'm expecting her milk intake to carry on like this for a while until her solid intake substantially increases. That will come with better coordination (she currently drops most things, even if I cut 'handles' into them). I do give her a few bits and bobs off spoons but she's not very interested. I wouldn't worry too much.

Can I ask what you're giving as BLW first foods? I'm stuck on toast fingers, mango slices and banana. Hated brocolli. What else is there?

I've changed my nickname, just in case your wondering! I'll wait until she is ready then. Its not a problem, I was just concerned she may be having too much! She dropped her night feed about a month ago :) so will just wait until she drops another.

LadyMetroland, I give her most things I am eating. She loves dairy, so she has egg (boiled) and toast, cheesey waffles and homemade cheese and onion pie. She also loves parsnips, carrots potatoes and sprouts. In fact she will have a good go at most veg. Bananas, strawberries and watermelon seem to be good fruits.
