OK - so how do you make up your formula feeds?

I've just seen the previous thread about making up formula feeds and now I'm getting nervy. I make up my bottles by using a brita filter kettle. I boil the water and usually make up the bottles around 1-2 hours later when the water has cooled down. I sterilise bottles in the microwave and either fill them up and stick them in the fridge, or if my husband has used the kettle to make a cup of tea before they have been filled (this happens less and less now!) then I'll put the empty sterilsed bottles in the fridge and then fill them when the water has boiled and cooled again. If I put the water in the bottles any earlier, won't the heat damage the fridge?

Your not doing anything wrong, thats exactly how I used to make mine.

We bottle fed DD1. Guess we did it all wrong, b/c we used to make up the whole dang feed, run it under the cold tap and stick it in the fridge. At feeding time, we put a bottle in a bottle warmer.

We used a microwave steriliser, sterilised the bottles, let them air dry, boiled the water, let it cool for half an hour or 45 minutes, then added the powder.

Had no idea that was wrong! We followed directions on the back of the box and never made up feeds more than 24 hours in advance.

Am I supposed to let the bottles dry first? I just take them straight from the steriliser.

We used to sterilise in mw, then fill bottles with boiled water, then just leave them until we needed to make up a feed, usually no more than a day.
Then mix formula in, give it to DD1.

No, you dont need to let the bottles dry first.

smiling I amke mine up by
boiling kettle
sterilise bottles in electric steriliser
let water cool
make up 24hr of bottles
store them in the fridge
warm when required and use within an hour.

Did it exactly the same way with ds who is 2

expatinscotland · 07/01/2006 19:36

that's exactly what we did w/dd1, nemo. worked just fine. we used to call it 'operation bobo'.

Sterilise bottles in microwave
boil kettle, fill up bottles (for 24hrs)
let water cool, add formula, shake
store in fridge
warm when required and use within the hour

The same as both of you

I wash bottles
sterilise them in a microwave steriliser while kettle is boiling
put boiling water into sterilised bottles (usually burning myself)
Then place bottles in cold water in the sink until cold
then put in the fridge
I heat up the water then add the powder at each feed.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 07/01/2006 20:09

wash bottles
microwave sterilise
add cooled boiled water and screw on lids
make up powder dispensers with required amount
add formula to bottle as required
shake
feed

I keep 3 "spare" bottles with cooled boiled water in for emergancies - if dh has had a cuppa etc

room temp bottles - no faffing about heating or cooling!
