Breastfeeding while having D and V?!

Hello,
I've just spent the last hour in the loo with it going at both ends. I missed expressing one feed but can't bear the thought of doing it now. Next feed will be at 7am but presumably I shouldn't give DD this and just pump and dump? I have some frozen breast milk I can give her plus we have some formula too. WWYD?

TIA

Feed her. You will be developing antibodies to your bug, which she will get the benefit of. she will get exposed to the germs through close contact one way or another anyway.

Sorry you're feeling shit. I hope you feel better soon. Try to keep drinking something if you can. Breastfeeding through D&V is hard work, but if you can manage it is the best way to go.

PS I can't think of any reason why the expressed milk wouldn't be fine.

What Kellymom says. Get well soon x

Thanks so much. Shall try to stagger to bed now (literally because I am on crutches at the moment - fun!).

It wouldnt have even occured to me not to feed (but I suppose i didnt have formula/frozen milk to fall back on).

Keeping on bfing, drink extra fluids to prevent being dehydrated. I'm pretty sure being ill doesnt mean you need to stop bfing unless you have to take meds that arent recommended.

You can feed her. I fed dd1 when I had norovirus with no ill effects. Just keep drinking yourself.

Northernlurker · 30/11/2011 23:39

ooops wrong dd - that was dd3. Dd1 was 11 at the time....

hermionestranger · 30/11/2011 23:50

Are you ne? Happened to me at 3 weeks post emcs with ds2. Thought the world was ending! We got through it ok and I fed him as normal. Do try and keep your fluids up though.

BuckBuckMcFate · 30/11/2011 23:59

As others have said you can do it but it's not fun.

I had it a couple of weeks ago and was going to the loo with D, hobbling back to DS3, feeding him with my head in a bowl, handing him back to DP, rushing back to loo. Horrendous and can't imagine how you're doing it with crutches as well!

I only had it overnight so hoping you make a quick recovery too.

Oh, and DS3 was fine, no illness at all.

Thanks all. Feel better this morning but terribly weak and feeble. Am on my own with DD (5 months) till 2 when my MIL arrives. Crutches and a baby in a sling when feeling weak - interesting combo! However, you were all right, DD seems fine, as do the rest of the household, thank god. Have good days all.
