When can I start expressing?

DD is 5 days old, EBF and feeding well, generally every 2-3 hours, sometimes less, sometimes more at night.

Basically I am thinking about Christmas and I know I will want a drink or two. I know I can have a glass of wine and still feed, but I had a glass of champagne the other day and fed and dd was sick. Ds was the same and really couldn't tolerate any alcohol in my breast milk, so I'd like to have enough for a feed or two on Christmas day.

So when am I ok to start expressing?

You can start expressing this early if you want. The thing you have to watch out for if you express this early is you can cause an oversupply issue if you express to much.

Have a read on Kellymom there is some good info there on expressing.

Another option is if you a leaking from the opersit side when feeding, you can collect the excess in breast shell's and frezze. To use for feeds over christmas.
